Military Family Information
Fort Bragg is a close neighbor to Southern Pines, NC – we welcome the families of the soldiers based at Fort Bragg.
Fort Bragg is on the Southern Pines – Aberdeen border in Moore County. Close enough for families to live in Moore County and have an easy commute to the base. The Sandhills region is not your typical military community. Life here doesn’t include large numbers of tattoo parlors, gentlemen’s clubs, used auto dealers, army surplus stores or dry cleaners specializing in uniforms. What you will find, however, is a great community that embraces and appreciates military families and all they have to offer.
If you are looking to spend your next tour of duty surrounded by fantastic local attractions, good restaurants, unique shopping, unbeatable golf and a family-friendly area, then you’ve come to the right place. Moore County is centrally located and offers easy commutes to Fort Bragg and, particularly, Camp Mackall.
Whether you’re new to the area or been stationed here for a few years, here are a few tips to help you along:
TRICARE
Although TRICARE Standard is widely accepted throughout the county, TRICARE Prime has limited availability. Several family practices accept TRICARE Prime and can usually accommodate new patients; however, there are currently no pediatricians accepting new TRICARE Prime patients. Because coverage changes frequently, you should search the provider database at tricare.mil for a list of eligible physicians in the area.
Military Discounts
Many area businesses offer military discounts to service members and their families. For a complete list of local discounts, contact the Moore County Chamber of Commerce.
Family Support
With the number and duration of deployments increasing, finding strong support systems is important. Several local churches have started spousal support groups that meet monthly and often provide childcare. Additionally, a few schools have started “buddy” clubs or support groups for the children of deployed parents.
Access to Fort Bragg
Access to Fort Bragg is restricted and requires proper identification. Visitors should be prepared for guards to search their vehicles prior to entering the installation. The Long Street Gate provides convenient access for most Moore County residents. For a complete list of gates and operating times, visit bragg.army.mil/PSBC-PM/Information/PostAccess.htm or call the Access Control Section at (910) 396-1272 or -0011.
