About the Sandhills
Located in the heart of the Sandhills, Moore County is known worldwide for its temperate climate, rolling hills, majestic pine trees, southern hospitality and pristine golf courses. There are 11 incorporated municipalities and nine unincorporated towns in Moore County. Southern Pines has the largest population and Carthage is the county seat.
Incorporated municipalities: Aberdeen, Cameron, Carthage, Foxfire, Pinebluff, Robbins, Southern Pines, Taylortown, Vass, Pinehurst and Whispering Pines.
Unincorporated towns: Eagle Springs, Eastwood, Glendon, High Falls, Jackson Springs, Jugtown, Lakeview, Seven Lakes and West End.
Moore County’s central location provides easy access to the mountains, coast and major cities. Just 35 minutes from Fort Bragg’s main post and an hour south of Raleigh-Durham and the Research Triangle Park, it’s conveniently located to shopping, museums, parks and galleries. The Moore County Airport offers charter air service, and the Southern Pines Train Station provides passenger service with Amtrak along the Silver Star and connecting routes. In addition, the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Fayetteville Regional Airport provide commercial air transportation options for longer trips.
Although golf is the main attraction in Moore County, families will find a wide selection of activities for all ages. The Greenway Trail Systems of Southern Pines and Pinehurst offer more than 15 miles of nature trails ideal for hiking and biking. Area parks and playgrounds provide children with the ideal spot for climbing, jumping and running. Throughout the year, local events, festivals and concerts are the perfect choice for family outings.
